CHEYENNE, WYOMING – The Zonta Club of Cheyenne has expanded its annual July campaign to raise awareness about human sex trafficking and to try to eliminate it from our community.
“Each year we look for additional ways to engage the community and our many Cheyenne Frontier Days visitors in our efforts to purge this vile crime from our community,” said Misti Fisher, coordinator of the Zonta human trafficking awareness campaign. “This year we continue that tradition with the help of nearly a dozen local bartenders and bar owners who are disseminating human trafficking information with each drink coaster they offer patrons. Thousands of drink coasters have been provided with the human trafficking hotline number on it. Every bartender we approached was overwhelmingly supportive of our efforts to make Cheyenne unattractive for human traffickers.” Fisher continued.
The hotline number is 888-373-7888 and should be called by anyone who suspects human trafficking is occurring or by victims of this terrible crime.
This collaboration with local drinking establishments is just the first leg of a three-prong awareness campaign. Zonta will also be present at all three pancake breakfasts and will set up a selfie booth, where kids of all ages can become super-heros by becoming part of the anti-human trafficking campaign. Visitors and local alike are encouraged to stop by the booth, take their picture, and learn more about recognizing the signs of human trafficking in their communities.
Finally, Zonta is sponsoring the Freedom Drivers exhibit at Frontier Park on Wednesday, July 25th and Thursday, July 26th. This is a mobile exhibit used to educate the public about Truckers Against Trafficking’s efforts to combat human trafficking and sex trafficking. The public is encouraged to view this one-of-a-kind exhibit while it is in town as part of Zonta’s anti-trafficking efforts. Truckers Against Trafficking will have representatives present to explain their program of training truckers to spot human trafficking in their travels.
