CHEYENNE, WYOMING – Zonta of Cheyenne encourages artists of all ages and all medium to submit entries for its sixth human trafficking awareness art contest. The theme of the contest is Human Trafficking is 20/20. Submissions must be dropped off at FlyDragon Art Studio at 600 W. 17th Street in Cheyenne no later than 6 p.m. December 28, 2019. Entries must include the artist’s name, age, phone number and email address. There is no entry fee and art of all types are welcomed.
A total of ten prizes will be offered. Three prizes of $50 each will be given to young artists aged twelve or less – one for 2-dimentional art, one for 3-dimentional art, and one for photography. Three prizes of $200 each will be given to artists aged 13 to 17 with separate categories for 2-dimentional art, 3-dimentional art, and one for photography. The adult artist categories will also be 2-dimentional, 3-dimentional, and photography with a prize of $200 to be given in each category. Finally, any art piece in the contest is eligible for the $200 People Choice Award.
The art will be displayed at the FlyDragon Art Studio for several weeks in January with a public reception to be held from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on January 8, 2020. Artists, their friends and family, and the general public are invited to the reception to view the art and to learn more about human trafficking in our community. Zonta is also sponsoring a follow-up event wherein 25 participants will be able to create a guided painting at FlyDragon Art Studio on the evening of January 16, 2020.
Zonta has spent the last several years working to raise awareness about human trafficking in Wyoming and specifically in the Laramie County area. The number of domestic victims of sexually driven human trafficking is growing in the United States and in our community. Awareness is the first step toward stopping the cruelty that is associated with this horrible, heartless crime. The art submissions help create a community conversation contributing to the Zonta awareness campaign.
